TOUR TO THE SVEZA PLANT

On September 28, an excursion to the production of the Sveza Plant in St. Petersburg was held for high school students from St. Petersburg School No. 26 and Lyceum No. 344. Sveza is a world leader in the production of birch plywood. The company’s products have gained the trust of consumers in 80 countries around the world and are used in the construction of skyscrapers, Olympic venues, the production of trunk trailers and high-speed trains, the creation of eco-furniture and stylish interiors.

The tour began with a story of the Personnel Service staff about the history of the company and the plywood production process. Then we were given protective uniforms and taken to the plant. Accompanied by process engineers, we were able to see with our own eyes the entire production process – from soaking logs in a giant pool to lamination of finished products. After that, we returned to the office to listen to two very interesting performances over tea:

Kirill Maksimov (Head of Veneer Production) spoke about his career path in the company and how he was able to optimize production processes through a STEM approach to problem solving.
Anastasia Pozharskaya (Head of the Organizational Development and Personnel Service) told the children about what skills should be developed already at school for a successful career start.

These performances provoked a lively response from the participants – some schoolchildren even promised that in the future they would come to work for the Sveza company. Our meeting ended with a win-win lottery, in which everyone received a memorable souvenir.

We express our gratitude to the Sveza company and personally to all the organizers of the meeting for the hospitality and a very busy day! The participants of the excursion got a lot of ideas for creating their own project within the framework of the STEM Education – the Path to Progress program.
