A round table “Development of youth employment skills” in the framework of the project “Comprehensive program to support vulnerable youth in reproductive health and social well-being in three Russian regions” was held in Ekaterinburg on September, 30.
The problem of professional implementation and employment of youth in Ekaterinburg was discussed by youth specialists, teachers of secondary specialized educational institutions, the Committee on Youth Policy of Ekaterinburg Administration, and guests from Ekaterinburg Employment Center. Nowadays young people don’t know good enough the real situation on the labor market, requirements of employers, have insufficient level of professional skills, lack of work experience, weak skills of self-presentation and communication.
“Over the past few years, as an employer, I have conducted about a hundred interviews,” said Vladimir Vetrov, the Director of the Serious Intentions ANO, a project partner in Ekaterinburg. “If you bring up people, they will grow a business. This is the highest priority. The better your employees are as people, the better they are as employees,”- this quote from the book “It’s Not About Coffee” about the largest coffee chain in the world. Any person’s professional skills can be trained. But personal qualities are much more important: responsibility, communication skills, punctuality, honesty, stress resistance, multitasking, critical thinking and so on. For several years in Russia, with the advisory support of the Institute of Childhood, Family and Education of the Russian Academy of Education, My Career project is being implemented, aiming at developing youth employment skills. Alyona Kandoba, specialist of the FOCUS-MEDIA Foundation, told about the project and plans in the new academic year.
