Two video clips were shot in the framework of the project “Support of Activism and Protection of the Rights of HIV-Positive Women in the Russian Federation”.
One of them appeals to women living with HIV, saying that the difficulties that arise at the beginning of life with HIV can be solved, help is nearby, and there are activists ready to support.
The second video is aimed at the medical community with a call to be more tolerant to female patients living with HIV, to be professional and provide them with qualified assistance.
There are more than 1.4 million people in Russia living with HIV. 40% of the total number of registered cases are women. 40% of women find out about their HIV status during pregnancy. Women living with HIV more often face stigma and discrimination compared to HIV-positive men, in particular by medical personnel. Gynecologists often refer HIV-positive pregnant women for abortion, refuse to support planning a safe pregnancy, and practice unfriendly or even negative attitudes.
Starting from the 1st of January 2020 “FOCUS-MEDIA” Foundation started its project aimed at improving medical care to women living with HIV and raising their social activity. The project takes place in two regions of Russia: Nizhny Novgorod and Rostov.
The project is supported by the UN Democracy Fund.
